Its not your job to love me.. its MINE!

The stats show that 20% of teens experience depression before they reach adulthood. The golden lining is 80% do not. But, depression may be an extreme form of dreary but one feeling that most of us are going through or have gone through at some point of time while growing up is – Self Rejection.

I take this topic to write on because it is something I relate to. It is something most of us irrespective of what schools or colleges we went to, how many friends we had, what figures our pocket money amount ran into.. can actually relate to. And the saddest part is , more often than not, we do not realize how much we’ve been bullying ourselves till it turns into self-destruction and everyone else around us starts noticing…and it becomes too big a problem to combat.

And in cases where it does not take a violent turn, which is 99%, we keep underestimating ourselves, not believing in ourselves and keep letting our chin weigh down more and more with every passing day.

Not so long ago, I myself was a victim of the phenomenon. For years, I would look at the mirror and see a ugly fat girl who wasn’t good enough to do anything in life.

The Girl….

A girl who thought herself to be too naive, too un-branded, too meek  to tame the horses of her life’s cart.

She was waiting for validation. She was waiting for someone to tell her, that she was more than ordinary. But, no one did. No one does.

Her parents thought of her as an average child who would pass college, get married and bring up children. Her friends thought of her as just another back bencher who played and laughed with them and went home. To her teachers, she was one more sheep in the herd waiting to graze the same old pastures.

One good thing happened to her. One good thing that doesn’t happen to everyone. One good thing that only highly fortunate people get to go through.

A turn of events, so heart-rending, so traumatic ,that she fell to her worst, her weakest.

From there, she got up..slowly but steadily. She had no other choice. The burden of her own guilt and unfulfilled dreams were making her shoulders ache.

Life changed..

In mirror now, a pretty face started smiling at her. Her life’s cart was slowly turning into a war chariot. Some strange source of audacity compelled her to venture into greener pastures. There was so much to gain, and nothing to lose.

Its never too late to be what you might have been. Start living each day as if you already are where you wanted to be..and destiny, luck, your palm lines..all the supernatural things that you believe in will conspire to bring into you all that is needed to be what you aspire to be.

“The Girl” stands a testimony to the fact that you are as amazing as you let yourself to be…!

Learn to validate yourself, learn to celebrate yourself , learn to encourage and compliment yourself coz this will be the greatest learning of your lifetime.

Don’t pay heed to what other people say, let the mirror talk to you. Remember, if they say all good things about you, you aren’t growing enough. Be your own role model, be your own competition , be your own inspiration..
